 ï»¿Growing

A little garden seed

Is lying in its bed.

A warm spring sun

Is shining overhead.

Down comes the raindrops

Dancing to and fro -

The little seed awakens

And starts to grow

Our reading curriculum consists of units that are centered around a common theme.

Each lesson consists of answering the question of the day, a read aloud ( story or poem), word wall words, phonemic awareness, grammar, spelling, writing and differentiated reading instruction. We are also beginning a new phonemic program this year called Fundations that emphasizes letter sounds and "taps" out phonemes in words.

Our students will also participate in Daily 5 literacy centers/stations.  The children rotate through five stations that build fluency and promote independent reading.

Ways to foster a reader for life...

*read to your child every night for 20 minutes

*talk about story elements, i.e., character, setting, beginning, middle, end and favorite part

*visit the library

*write stories at home
